Lecture at ANZAC Memorial, Hyde Park, Sydney 3 May 2011

Project Beneath Gallipoli Director Tim Smith and expedition photographer Mark Spencer, will present a public lecture on the 2010 expedition results on 3 May 2011. The venue is the ANZAC Memorial, Hyde Park, Sydney, with the event hosted by project sponsor, the Australian Geographic Society, and supported by the National Trust of Australia.

The evening starts with a 5.15pm tour through the Memorial, with the lecture starting at 6.30pm.

Feature in Australian Geographic magazine

The 2010 Project Beneath Gallipoli expedition features in an illustrated article in the current (vol 102) edition of Australian Geographic magazine. The article by Tim Smith and Mark Spencer highlights the amazing discoveries made by the joint Turkish-Australian team.

Lecture on Gallipoli at forthcoming international diving conference

Tim Smith and Mark Spencer will present a special 45 minute talk on the successes of the 2010 Project Beneath Gallipoli expedition at the forthcoming international OZTek Diving Conference. venue: Bay 4, Australian Technology Park, Eveleigh. Sydney, Australia.

The talk will take place at 10.00am on Sunday 13 March 2011.

Project Beneath Gallipoli – Turkish documentary screens

The Joint Australian-Turkish archaeological survey of the underwater component of the Gallipoli battlefields has recently aired on Turkish television. The  Two-part documentary has been prepared by Turkish team member and television historical documentary producer, Savas Karakas.

The Turkish IZ TV film project features two parts: the first ”ANZAC’s Deep Secrets” aired nationally on 3 December, and the second part dealing with the project team’s survey of Suvla Bay, will air on 14 January 2011.

This is an exciting conclusion to Project Beneath Gallipoli’s initial 2010 expedition and demonstrates the close working relationship between the teams. The film project includes footage taken by the Australian Channel 7  “Sunday Night” television team that aired in Australia earlier this year.

Project Beneath Gallipoli lecture at Australian National Maritime Museum, Sydney

The Australian team members of Project Beneath Gallipoli gave an illustrated lecture on the 2010 expedition results to an enthusiastic audience of 100 people on Sunday 14 November 2010. The event was held at the Australian National Maritiem Museum (ANMM) at Darling Harbour in Sydney. Expedition Director Tim Smith showcased the major findings of the first offshore surveys held in late May/early June 2010. Project photographer Dr Mark Spencer provided an insight into the photographic coverage of the expedition, its challenges, and of his link to the battle via his Great Uncle Hector Markey who served in the Australian Field Ambulance. The expedition’s videographer Samir Alhafith presented a 10-minute film clip of some of the underwater diving and archaeological survey work in operation.

Beneath Gallipoli project aired on Australian TV

The results of the first May-June 2010 Project Beneath Gallipoli expedition went to air on Network 7′s “Sunday Night” program on Sunday 26 September 2010.
